Notary certification of a copy is used for the purposes of binding to a sworn translation if the translation cannot be bound to the original document. For us to visit a notary on your behalf, you must first deliver us the original document, without which no notary will certify any copy. The copy certified by the notary is then suitable for binding to the sworn translation. 

Use the following steps to secure notary certification on your own: 

If you intend to use the sworn translation of a Slovak document abroad, please request that the notary certify the documents for their use abroad. Therefore, a notary is required as a clerk or the employee authorised by the notary is not authorised to issue certification for use abroad and they may not recognise your certified document abroad. We recommend calling the notary before visiting to ensure the notary is in the office. For instance, if you have a Slovak birth certificate that is certified by a notary and you need a sworn translation of it into German, certification is required before translation, as the notary’s stamp must also be translated into German. 

If you need to certify a document in a foreign language, a notary must be found who certifies foreign language documents in the given language. The notary embosses the document with a Slovak stamp, which means if you want to translate the document into Slovak, the notary’s stamp already is already in Slovak and it does not need to be translated. However, it is likewise advisable to visit the notary first and to bring the certified copy with you as this will be bound to the translation.
